The 1420 uses IDE drives and integrated networking to keep costs low, but delivers uncompromising performance with dual Intel Xeon processors up to 3.2GHz and up to 4GB of RAM.

The 1420 also includes a 64-bit/133MHz PCI slot to house modern add-in cards. Popular options include infiniband or Myrinet adapters, fiber gigabit cards, or IDE or SCSI RAID cards to support mirroring of the 1420's two drive bays.
